Climate Bonds Enhances Market Assessment Criteria

Social & Sustainability Bond Dataset Methodology sets framework for credible assessment

Highlights:

  1. Enhanced assessment framework:  Transparency in reporting and mitigating impact washing key areas of new streamlined approach
  2. Comprehensive use of proceeds (UoP) mapping: Detailed mapping of eligible UoP categories and corresponding ICMA indicators
  3. Flexibility in UoP: Introduction of 10% margin of flexibility

London 03/02/2025: The Climate Bonds Initiative has today released the Climate Bonds Social & Sustainability Bond Dataset Methodology report. With a view to further bolstering the credibility of social and sustainability (S&S) bonds, this report thoroughly measures areas such as transparency, evidence-based criteria as well as social and environmental contribution to target populations.

Part of this report includes an enhanced framework for assessing credible S&S bonds. As well as increasing transparency, this is also designed to mitigate impact washing in post-issuance reportage. The updated methodology now includes a detailed mapping of eligible use of proceeds (UoP) categories with corresponding ICMA indicators.

Further, a 10% margin of flexibility has been introduced, with a view to addressing cases with potential uncertainty, or where metrics are not readily available for assessing methodology alignment.
