Climate Bonds CEO Sean Kidney appointed to GX Acceleration Agency Global Advisory Council 

Enhancing global cooperation and international communication of Japan’s GX Acceleration Agency

Tokyo, 30/01/2025: Sean Kidney, CEO of Climate Bonds Initiative, has been appointed as an advisor to the "Global Advisory Council" of the GX Acceleration Agency. With this appointment, Climate Bonds Initiative will leverage its expertise to provide insights from a global perspective on Japan’s GX strategy and sustainable finance, contributing to the enhancement of international communication. 

1. Background of the Establishment of the "Global Advisory Council" 

The GX Acceleration Agency commenced operations in July 2024 with the goal of realizing over 150 trillion yen in GX investments from both the public and private sectors over the next decade. To achieve this, the agency provides financial support such as debt guarantees, administers the carbon pricing mechanism being introduced from FY2026. 

In addition, the agency serves as a "hub" for aggregating information related to GX initiatives across industries, financial institutions, government bodies, local authorities, and research organizations. The agency is engaged in activities such as research, corporate collaboration, policy proposals, and international outreach. 

To further strengthen global networks and enhance international communication, the "Global Advisory Council" has been established. This council comprises globally recognized experts with extensive knowledge in GX policy, sustainable finance, impact investing, and sustainability disclosure. 

2. Role of Climate Bonds Initiative within the "Global Advisory Council" 

As an advisor to the Council, Sean Kidney will provide guidance and expertise to support the activities of the GX Acceleration Agency. By leveraging the deep knowledge of Climate Bonds Initiative, the agency will strengthen its international presence and further develop Japan’s GX policies on a global scale. 

Climate Bonds Initiative remains committed to advancing sustainable finance and climate action from a global perspective and will continue to enhance its efforts in this field.
