About the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI)

The Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) started in 2009 as a project of the Network for Sustainable Financial Markets (NSFM), an international network of finance sector professionals, academics and others dedicated to improving financial market integrity and efficiency. CBI is now the world’s leading organization working to mobilize the largest capital market of all, the $100 trillion global bond market, for climate change solutions. Itis an investor-focused, not-for-profit organization, whose outputs are an opensource public good. 

Our primary workstreams include green bonds standard and certification, green bond data and market analysis, and policy advisory. We have been providing support for green bond market development in various regions/countries including Europe, US, China, India, Brazil and Mexico, in collaboration with UN, European Commission, Multilateral Development Banks and OECD, etc. Climate Bonds Initiative is a special member of the Green Finance Committee in China, playing an advisory role in proceedings.

 

The Role 

We are looking for a research analyst to join us in China to: 

  • Support research projects which focus on provinces and cities in Mainland China, for example, case studies of sustainability action plans, green bond issuance opportunities, harmonized green taxonomy application in pilot zones, local green recovery, etc.;
  • Follow up with market development in sustainability debt market, including green bonds, blue bonds, social bonds, pandemic bonds, sustainability bonds, etc., and provide written analysis and commentary to potential issuers, regulators, investors and CBI’s approved verifiers;
  • Carry out thematic research relating to transition finance, such as green hydrogen standards, and assist in industry level analysis;
  • Support Climate Bonds Initiative’s other activities in China, including training, translation, content creation, communication, support for workshops and meetings, etc.

 

Qualification and Experience 

Essential 

·       2-4 years of research experience in green/climate finance or a relevant field

·       Know China market and regulatory system

·       Proven ability to research and analyze large quantities of information across different fields, excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

·       Rigorous attention to detail and a strong analytical mind

·      Excellent communication and writing skills

·      Flexible, and able to multi-task, prioritize and work to tight deadlines

·      Motivated and a self-starter, able to work independently

Desirable 

   ·       High proficiency in both Chinese and English

·      Knowledge and experience in environmental science, climate change, or sustainability

·      Master’s degree in a relevant subject
