About the Climate Bonds Initiative

The Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused NGO working to mobilise global capital for climate action. The organisation is leading the development of climate finance, investment and transition opportunities with global stakeholders: governments, investors, banks and large companies.

Our main work streams are green bond standards and certification, green bond data and market analysis, policy analysis, green capital markets development and communications. Communications - and advocacy is central to our work.

 

The Role

The Head of Communications will be responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive, proactive communications strategy that promotes our brand and messages around the globe and supports the overall strategic aims of the organisation.

The communications strategy should ensure that a coherent message runs through all communications pieces targeting both internal and external stakeholders. That includes blogs, press releases, social media, publications and PR.

The Head of Communications will work closely with the regional Communications teams and other internal stakeholders, including Senior Management team, Markets, Policy, Standards and Certification, Events, Partnerships and Operations.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Communications Strategy (20%)

Responsibility for planning the Global Communications Strategy in alignment with our organisational strategy and priorities, setting smart objectives, timeframes and steps for achieving the strategy. There will be one strategy targeting the external audience and another one focused on the internal stakeholders.

The job holder will be accountable for the delivery of the communications strategy, acting as coordinator for the key communication areas and working in collaboration with the Communications team to ensure consistency of message and alignment of content.

 

Publications and Events (20%)

The job holder will be responsible for a coherent and planned approach to promote Climate Bonds reports and other publications. He/ She will provide editorial support where required and design a promotional plan to support the dissemination of messages (including research, write and publish news stories).

 

Digital content creation and management (20%)

The role will hold oversight of the Climate Bonds website, regular blogs and social media channels.

Moderation of the website and existing channels, including:

  • Serving as Editor, managing the content creation process which will include other members of the comms team.
  • Planning the timing and nature of content for CBI’s channels. Design and develop content based on engagement objectives and strategic communications priorities.
  • Creating and curating digital content including writing, design and video.
  • Coordinating internal communications initiatives such as newsletters, email announcements etc.

 

Social media management and strategy (10%)

The job holder will lead all communication and public relations planning and execution, monitor progress and evaluate performance against agreed targets set out in the communications strategy.

The role will have overall oversight of CBI’s presence on social media platforms, overseeing the content creation and planning for all social media activities.

This will entail:

  • Liaising with colleagues also active on social media to co-ordinate messaging.
  • Extending CBI’s strategy into digital and social touch points.
  • Applying expertise regarding editorial content and digital distribution platforms to achieve maximum reach among existing stakeholders and new audiences.
  • Measure engagement metrics for priority campaigns on digital platforms.

 

Media & PR (20%)

The job holder will work closely with key media players on the delivery of media relations campaigns, as well as internal stakeholders to react to emerging news stories when required.

This will entail:

  • Develop a robust global media mailing list and cultivate a solid relationship with key players in the sector.
  • Monitor relevant news stories and publications etc. globally, implementing tools where appropriate
  • Work closely with the Head of Regional Comms on the development of regional media relations.
  • Create and launch press releases and marketing campaigns.
  • Drive corporate strategy and message development, pitch and announcement strategies.
  • Prepare crisis management strategies, based on a detailed risk assessment, and be ready to implement quickly

 

Internal communications (10%)

The Head of Communications will ensure that the team is informed about emerging and/ or planned news stories and publications in an efficient and timely manner.

He/ she is responsible for coordinating internal communications, such as newsletters, email announcements etc., to ensure that the team receives relevant, on-brand information.

Training and coaching the wider team in media interaction, writing etc. is a key part of this role.

 

Qualifications

  • Senior communications executive with extensive experience leading communications strategy in a creative, high-growth business;
  • Foundational experience in journalism and media relations is desirable, as is the experience in covering finance-related subjects;
  • Experience with crisis communications and change management;
  • Business development mindset where communications directly contributes to business objectives;
  • Exceptional writer and dynamic speaker;
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the design and execution of corporate communications strategies
  • Experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media
  • Strong oral and written communication and influencing skills
  • Leadership experience
  • Commercially focused and able to demonstrate ROI

 

Essential

  • Experience with social media platforms and management suites. 
  • Degree required (preferably in mass communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field) Solid professional experience required including experience producing digital content and managing social accounts for a small to medium sized organisation.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing digital content management systems. Experience of writing, editing and producing written communications for targeted audiences.
  • Excellent English (written and spoken)
