de Volksbank is the 4th mortgage lender in the Netherlands to receive Certification. It is the 4th largest bank in the Netherlands and focuses mainly on retail banking. The bank has made a commitment to achieve a carbon neutral balance sheet by 2030.
This initiative is led directly by the bank’s Treasury and will be partly achieved by focusing on mortgages for low carbon residential housing. As a consequence, de Volksbank has been marketing relevant products and actively providing advice to borrowers about how to increase the energy performance of their homes. As a result, at the end of 2018, de Volksbank’s balance sheet is 37% climate neutral.
