Mark Burrows, Credit Suisse MD & Vice Chair, Global Investment Banking and doyen of Australian finance, joins as Climate Bonds senior advisor

High profile Australian & international finance executive Mark Burrows has taken up the newly created honorary role as Senior Adviser to the London based Climate Bonds Initiative.

Mark Burrows is currently Credit Suisse Managing Director and Vice Chairman, Global Investment Banking. For the past few years he has been working on sustainable development with global financial institutions and is a Special Advisor to the UNEP Finance Initiative.

In 1992 he was the joint author of a report that was arguably the foundation for the $1.7 trillion Australian compulsory superannuation industry.

He also led the development of Australia's national uniform corporate law and financial market regulation, which led to the creation of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Mark was for 20 years the Executive Chairman of iconic Australasian investment banking firm Baring Brothers Burrows, followed by stints as Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of ING Barings in London and a London Partner of Lazard. In 2011 he joined Credit Suisse.

His financial advisory work has centered on the mining, media and banking sectors (both for governments, advising on the first Australian and New Zealand privatisations and corporates, including BHP, News Corp and NAB over an extensive period). While in London, he advised on emerging markets and sovereign debt reconstruction including Argentina.

Since 2010, he has been a continuing Australian government representative at the B20 for the G20 Summits.

Mark has been the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of some of Australia's leading public companies including Brambles, Fairfax and Telstra.
