Climate Bonds Mitigation Taxonomy

Taxonomies play a key role in sustainable finance

Today, more than 50 national or regional Taxonomies are in use or under development. While each should reflect local needs, Taxonomies are most effective when they follow common principles and definitions. This makes it easier to scale markets and support cross-border investment. This shared approach is known as "interoperability".

Mitigation Taxonomy

The Climate Bonds Taxonomy is a guide to climate-aligned projects and assets. It is a tool for issuers, investors, governments, and municipalities to understand the key investments that will deliver a low-carbon economy.

The Taxonomy is grounded in the latest climate science and has been developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder approach, leveraging the work of our Technical and Industry Working Groups (TWGs and IWGs).

The Taxonomy serves as an important resource for common green definitions across global markets so as to support the growth of a cohesive thematic bond market and, therefore, delivering a low-carbon economy.
