Sustainable Finance and Transition Planning to Decarbonise Hard-to-Abate Sectors Using Biomass and Best Practices for Methane Reduction

Event details

Sustainable Finance and Transition Planning to Decarbonise Hard-to-Abate Sectors Using Biomass and Best Practices for Methane Reduction is organised by the Climate Bonds Initiative and focuses on different regions. The Criteria now embed best practices across the biogas and biomethane value chain to help abate process methane emissions leakage.

The workshop will be held online on 12th and 13th May 2026 and will provide participants from financial institutions, banking and the bioenergy sector with the latest knowledge and tools to incorporate methane emissions reduction, alongside broader sustainability strategies, into operational practices and financial planning.

The workshop will focus on the Bioenergy sector criteria developed by Climate Bonds. It will cover practical tools to support the integration of bioenergy into taxonomies, transition plans and decarbonisation strategies for hard-to-abate sectors.

In addition, the workshop will explore how labelled bonds and other sustainable finance instruments can be used to finance decarbonisation actions more cost-effectively, including measures relevant to methane abatement.

The programme will be highly interactive and designed to help participants apply practical approaches for integrating methane abatement and other sustainability actions into transition plans, while also making use of investment frameworks and taxonomies to align with international standards and improve access to funding.

Through the workshop, participants will strengthen their understanding of how to mobilise finance for methane reduction projects and broader decarbonisation measures, supporting measurable emissions reductions and greater climate resilience. On successful attendance of both days of training, the participant will receive a certificate from Climate Bonds Initiative.
