Resilience Certification
Certification of projects and assets aligned with climate resilience
Resilience Certification under the Climate Bonds Standard enables issuers to demonstrate that their investments are designed to withstand, adapt to, and thrive in the face of climate risks. This route expands Certification beyond mitigation, ensuring resilience is embedded into climate finance.
What can be Certified?
Resilience investments listed in, or closely matching those listed in the Climate Bonds Resilience Taxonomy (CBRT) are Certifiable if they meet all of the following requirements:
- Substantial Contribution: The investment makes a measurable contribution to climate resilience.
- No Maladaptation: Any maladaptation risks have been identified and managed.
- No Significant Harm (DNSH) to Mitigation: The investment does not undermine climate mitigation objectives.
Some investments were pre-assessed during CBRT development as automatically meeting parts of these requirements. Others will need to provide evidence to demonstrate compliance.
These CBRT investments and associated criteria are relevant to Use of Proceeds (UoP) Certification and Asset Certification only.
Certification process
Resilience Certification follows the same principles as other Climate Bonds Standard Certifications, with additional specific eligibility considerations, as outlined above. Verification is required by an Approved Verifier, who will assess the conformance of the debt instrument or asset against the Climate Bonds Standard and the CBRT, using the Criteria for Certification against the Climate Bonds Resilience Taxonomy.
Why Resilience Certification matters
- Expands the scope of Certification to projects that increase resilience alongside decarbonisation.
- Opens doors for critical sectors such as infrastructure, water, agriculture, and the built environment.
- Builds investor confidence with a science-based, transparent, and process-driven framework.
- Strengthens alignment with the Paris Agreement and supports a growing pipeline of investible climate solutions.
