Principles for Taxonomy Interoperability
Building a common language for sustainable finance
As sustainable finance taxonomies are published across the world, the lack of alignment is creating a growing challenge: how can markets, regulators, and investors compare and trust what “green” really means? Without interoperability, global capital flows risk becoming fragmented, slowing the pace of the transition and creating barriers to investment.
The Roadmap for Advancing Interoperability and Comparability of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies sets out practical steps for building connections between taxonomies while respecting regional differences and priorities. It outlines guiding principles and emerging practices to help policymakers, regulators, and market participants strengthen coherence, comparability, and mutual understanding across jurisdictions.
Developed in collaboration with partners and experts, the Roadmap aims to foster trust, transparency, and credibility in the fast-evolving landscape of sustainable finance. By advancing interoperability, it helps ensure that global capital can flow more efficiently towards genuinely green and sustainable activities wherever they are.
This was developed under the Roadmap for Advancing Interoperability and Comparability of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies (Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative), launched at COP30 Brazil and available in multiple languages.
