The annual event hosted by SIWI is celebrating its 25th year. Thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations will gather to focus on the world’s water issues.

The Climate Bonds Initiative will be co-convening the session “Investment approaches to Mainstreaming Climate Adaptation.”

In this session we will be discussing the opportunities for green bonds across the water sector and the need for industry standards that can ensure investments deliver measurable impacts towards credible climate change solutions. This session will also discuss the development of our climate bond standard for water-related investments in collaboration with the World Resource Institute, Ceres and CDP. Click here for more program details of the event.

When: Monday 24 August; 16:00-17:30

Where: NL Pillar Hall

Conveners: CBI, CDP, Ceres, World Resources Institute, and AGWA

The Climate Bonds Initiative’s recent report Bonds and Climate Change: the state of the market in 2015 found a $597.7bn climate-aligned bond universe. Out of this the water sector accounts for $3.2bn, where an impressive 98% of that is labeled. Water investments are growing fast in the green bond market, and it is therefore increasingly important to have clear industry standards for the bonds whose proceeds fund climate change solutions. This will increase transparency and quality as well as improving access and visibility for investors. Climate Bonds Initiative has therefore led the development of Climate Bond Certified Standards for water investments, together with World Resource Institute, Ceres and CDP.
